Bubble insulation provides the maximum efficiency in controlling heat transfer as the air space built between the layers of foilworks to keep radiant heat from penetrating a structure from the outside, and the radiant foil reflects interior heat back into a structure from the inside. Even though you get single bubble and double bubble insulation in the market, there is little difference between the two in terms of performance. Cost-wise single bubble insulation is cheaper than double bubble insulation.
Bubble insulation consists of layer/s of air bubbles sandwiched between two metalized surfaces. It is not necessary that both the sides should be laminated with metals. For example, INSUreflector manufactured by Supreme Industries has the option of insulation material laminated with aluminium foil on one side or both the sides. In this case, radiant heat reflective insulation material made of polyethylene air bubble film (ABF) laminated with aluminium foil on one or both sides.
It should be noted that INSUreflector is an effective insulation against radiant heat transfer and can be used to its greatest advantage in instances where radiation is the predominant means of heat transfer. Its bright aluminiumized film surfaceis an excellent reflector of all long wave radiant heat that strikes it – reflecting 96-99% of all radiant heat. It is an excellent performance by any means as ordinary building materials which reradiate nearly 90%of the heat.
INSUreflector is also available with aluminium foil laminated on one side and the other side with milky white film. This smooth white side which is easy to clean gives a pleasing appearance and brightness to the interior of the room while at the same time maintaining the insulating value of the reflective foil bubble insulation.
In addition to this, INSUreflector has several other features too. It is chemically inert insulation material meaning it is unaffected by alkalis, alcohol, detergents, petrochemical products and most mild acids. It is also an environment friendly material as it is non-toxic, non-carcinogenic and fibre free. It conforms to BS 476 Pt. 6 & 7. ‘Class O’ & ‘Class 1’ category, respectively. Further, it has excellent tensile strength, puncture and tear resistance.
